Loxia curvirostra

Crossbill - Found around pine forests where they feed on pine cones. The bill is perfectly adapted to do this with the twisted mandibles. Larch and spruce is also one of the food sources. Adult males are red or orange in colour as this one, and females are green. Photographed at Annagh Lake Greaghnafarna Co. Leitrim and the Son Real region of Majorca Spain.
