Calidris ferruginea

Curlew Sandpiper - This wader is a summer visitor. After breeding in Europe it returns to winter as far as South Africa. It is often seen wading through soft mud picking up food such as small invertebrates and insect matter. These birds were feeding in the Algarve at Cabanas De Tavira on the salt pans there. Juvenile shown in last three images.
