Aquila chrysaetos

Golden Eagle - Probably the best known of all raptors and is the most widely distributed. These majestic birds have been known to pair up for life. They will feed on carrion, mammals and birds. There are around 400 breeding pairs in the UK. Mainly confined to northern areas. At distance they can easily be confused with common buzzards but the Golden Eagle dwarfs the buzzard at close quarters.
