Ciconia nigra

Black Stork - not so common as its cousin the White Stork. During the winter these majestic birds live in Africa, India, and southern China. During the summer months, the storks migrate to Europe, Russia, and northern areas of China. Breeds in swampy coniferous and mixed forests, where rather shy; builds a bulky stick nest high in trees. mainly feed on fish and small reptiles. These are two of three I saw flying over Sagres in Portugal during October.
