Sphecotheres vieilloti

Figbird - native to northern and eastern Australia. The male is unmistakable with its distinct red facial skin. The females and juveniles are a more dull colour with a grey facial skin and dark streaking. They have the ability to mimic other birds. Mainly a fruit eater but their food is also backed up with insects, nectar and seed. I took these photographs in the Bundaberg region of eastern Australia.
