Gyps fulvus

Griffon Vulture - a large vulture with a wing span of up to 3m with a top speed of 75km/h. Fascinating to watch as they ride the thermal currents at great heights. It has a large range across the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe. Spain has the largest population of these majestic vultures. Their diet includes carcasses of dead or weak animals. They are monogamous and usually pair up for life. I saw this lone vulture circling over the cliff edges at Praia Da Rocha in the Algarve region of Portugal.
