Circus cyaneus

Hen Harrier - This harrier has a distinct male and female plumage. This one here being an adult male. The female is brown with a white rump patch. So called because of past preying on fowl. They are ground nesters building nests of sticks, grass and heather. They have an owl type face although not seen in this image! This one was far too quick for me! I spotted this one at Castro Marim reserve in Portugal. Better luck next time!
