Vanellus vanellus

Lapwing - Quite an exotic looking bird with a long wispy head crest. The Lapwing is sometimes called the Green Plover and even a third name Peewit. The latter because of the call they make in flight.. They tend to nest in the same field every year. Three to four eggs are laid in a ground scrape. Very protective of their nests, dive-bombing intruders. These taken in Allestree Derby England, Vilamoura Portugal and Sligo Co. Leitrim.
