Oriolus oriolus

Golden Oriole - Not the best photograph of this bird but it is the only one I have seen on my travels so here it stays for a while. They have such a beautiful song which first drew me towards this one. The male like this one is striking in the typical oriole black and yellow plumage, but the female is a drabber green bird. A secretive bird which keeps to the high tree canopy, it can be heard, most often at dawn, giving its distinctive fluting whistle. It took us a while to locate this bird at Barranco Do Velho in Portugal. It was worth the wait.
