Scolopax rusticola
Woodcock - mostly active around dawn or dusk. Luckily I managed to see this one in mid afternoon in my garden in Co. Leitrim during January. They roost in fields during the daytime. The diet mainly consist of earthworms, insect larvae and freshwater molluscs. They are only forced to eat seed when food is scarce. A very timid bird difficult to see in the day and very fast in flight when flushed.
