Galerida cristata

Crested Lark - These birds prefer to habit dry saltmarsh edges, farmlands, and sandy tracks with good woody vegetation cover where it feeds on seeds and insects. Very similar to the Thekla Lark but for the bill shape and region. They do not seem to be too bothered about human company! I got very close to some of these birds in the Algarve at the Alvor estuary in Portugal. Amazing to watch singing in flight. The crest is upright at all times but even more so during the breeding season. It is a ground nesting bird. A few vagrant birds recorded in Britain.
