Pluvialis apricaria

Golden Plover - a beautiful unmistakable Plover with its distinctive gold and black plumage. Large flocks of wintering birds are found inland as well as coastline habitats. They have a wide variety of diet including worms, berries, seeds, beetles and invertebrates. They are red-listed due to a recent decline in breeding pairs. Although in Europe the numbers are more secure. This bird was photographed in Quinta do Lago in Portugal during October.
