Locustella naevia

Grasshopper Warbler - A summer visitor to Europe wintering in Africa. This bird is more frequently heard than seen. It has a reeling sound rather than a song which is heard throughout spring and summer. The Grasshopper Warbler is amber listed due to a reduction in the breeding range. Although widespread in Ireland I have yet to come across one. These photographs were taken in the Algarve at Vilamoura reed beds in Portugal.
