
Pluvialis squatarola
Grey Plover - or Black-bellied Plover is a widespread winter visitor to Britain and Ireland but I've yet to see one here. I came across many though in the Algarve at Cabanas De Tavira, Quinta do Lago and Salgados in Portugal. They feed on invertebrates such as crustaceans and molluscs. The first images shown here are in winter plumage. In the breeding season they show a black face, neck and belly as in the last image. Hence the alternative name Black-bellied Plover.
