Pheasant - The Chinese male variety introduced into Britain at the end of the 18th century has the prominent white collar. There is a Caucasian variety introduced during the Roman times. The latter variety does not have this. It is a ground feeder. The diet includes grain, leaves and invertebrates. Photographs from Co. Leitrim and Derby.
