Falco vespertinus

Red-footed Falcon - usually found in flocks. The species is currently listed as Near Threatened due to habitat destruction. It is a migratory species that winters in the south of Africa. Vagrant to Britain & Ireland, reported annually but in varying numbers.
Very similar to the Kestrel when hunting. Regular hovering and searching the ground then diving for insects, small mammals, lizards, small birds. Wonderful to watch a flock of these falcons doing just that in the Can Picafort area of Majorca Spain.
