Circaetus gallicus

Short-toed Eagle - also known as the Short-toed Snake Eagle. A relatively large eagle. They can be recognised by their predominantly white underside, and the large yellow eyes. Crescent shaped bars and an owl like head. Its prey is mostly reptiles, mainly snakes, but also some lizards. Sometimes they become entangled with larger snakes and battle it out on the ground.Occasionally, they will prey on small mammals up to the size of a rabbit. I photographed this eagle in the Sagres are of Portugal during October.
