Accipiter nisus

Sparrowhawk - Sparrowhawks fly at great speeds over the tops of hedges in pursuit of small birds. Sometimes actually flying through the hedgerow! They build their nests in trees, building a new nest each year. It hunts birds in woodland or cultivated areas, relying on surprise as it flies from a perch or hedge-hops to catch its prey unaware. Regular visitor to my garden! Greaghnafarna Co. Leitrim where these photographs were taken.
