Himantopus himantopus

Black-winged Stilt - This wader has striking red legs and really fascinating to watch as it searches for food from sand or shallow water. The diet is mainly insects and crustaceans. Usually observed in areas of shallow water, fresh or brackish, with margins of sand or mud. Usually on lagoons estuary's or delta areas. These were photographed at the Alvor Estuary in the Algarve Portugal and the S'Albufera region of Majorca in Spain. A few birds have been recorded in Britain but non-breeding.
