Turdus merula

Blackbird - Blackbirds are the noisiest of the thrush family and more so at roosting times. The male is also competitive and will protect its territory by chasing away other males. If a fight between male Blackbirds does occur it is usually short and the intruder is soon chased away. This one taken on the banks of the river Shannon at Dowra County Cavan and the second two in my garden at Greaghnafarna Leitrim. The male has a lovely singing voice. The females are brown in colour.
