Ferruginous Duck - A diving duck that feed on aquatic plants insects and even small fish. The Ferruginous Duck will also feed by dabbling. The narrow black band around the neck identifies this duck. Also they are quite striking in flight as they flash bright white wing bars. They are often seen among Pochards. I was surprised to see so many in the Algarve at Vilamoura reed beds in Portugal outnumbering the Pochards there.
