Coracias garrulus

Roller - around the size of a Jackdaw. Although the roller is in the family of bee-eaters.
The roller cannot be mistaken by its beautifully coloured plumage. It is a pale blue with a chestnut coloured back and showing turquoise blue wings in flight. Its as beautiful as it sounds. Often seen on overhead wires waiting for prey such as flying insects. It tumbles and turns in pursuit, hence the name roller. I was so pleased to come across these birds in the Agia Varvara area of Cyprus after years of waiting to see one!
