Anas clypeata

Shoveler - Unmistakable male with a huge bill used for shovelling food as it's name suggests! As well as feeding on seed and plants in ponds and marshes, they will also eat insects and crustaceans. The female is very similar to the female Mallard but for the huge beak. They frequent ponds and marshes. These photographs taken in the Algarve at Vilamoura reedbeds and Quinta Do Lago in Portugal. The video clip is from Co. Longford.
